So intense… Benedict Cumberbatch as Vincent van Gogh.
During his stay in the home this patient, who is calm for most of the time, has had several attacks, lasting for between two weeks and a month. During these attacks he is subject to terrifying terrors and has on several occasions attempted to poison himself, either by swallowing colors that he used for painting or ingesting paraffin…
Greatest Cumberscenes, Part II: Painted with words (2010)
Part I here.
Benedict’s never been more beautiful than in Painted with words. And that’s ironic cause Van Gogh was really ugly.
Wow.

I bet he’s tenderness personified…

Benedict Cumberbatch as Vincent van Gogh.
Benedict Cumberbatch behind bars… as Sherlock and Van Gogh…

This, ladies and gentlemen, might be the most beautiful and illustrious Cumberbatch gif I’ve ever seen. I don’t know who’s made it, but I will love you forever.
English art didn’t appeal to me much at first, one has to get used to it. There are some good painters here, though, including Millais, who made ‘The Huguenot’, Ophelia, &c., engravings of which you probably know, they’re very beautiful.
Then Boughton, of whom you know the ‘Puritans going to church’ in our Galerie photographique. I’ve seen very beautiful things by him. Moreover, among the old painters, Constable, a landscape painter who lived around 30 years ago, whose work is splendid, something like Diaz and Daubigny.
And Reynolds and Gainsborough, who mostly painted very, very beautiful portraits of women, and then Turner, after whom you’ll probably have seen engravings.
Oh Lord…
