Moriarty's Skull

It's always nice to be smartly dressed in some sharp Dunhill and be given a cane with Moriarty's Skull at the end of it...

“I wanted Harrison’s voice to have something slightly manufactured and odd, that sounded test-tube-made, where every word was sort of etched. I was keen to make his violence quick—not balletic, but purposeful. And his physique—he’s not Bane, he’s not this unsurpassable physical entity. He’s a warrior, a spearhead—someone who just carves his way through and doesn’t stop. There had to be emotion in the movement as well, and when he was at rest, it was more reptilian.”

He said it… at last!

What do you make of the new US modern Sherlock Holmes adaptation, Elementary?

Jonny [Lee Miller] asked me if I was all right with him doing it. I said, ‘€œWhat are the similarities?’ € And he went, ‘€œWell it’€™s modern.’€ I went, ‘€œOh.’€ Then he said, ‘€œLucy Liu’€™s going to play Joan Watson’.€ And I went, ‘€œOh.’€ I got hold of the pilot script just to check it out. I don’€™t know, we’€™ll see. I think there’€™s room for us both to coexist. I don’€™t feel threatened by it and I wish him the best, which is as diplomatic as I can be.

It’€™s a strange position to be in.

It’€™s very odd. I did say, ‘€œWell, I’€™d prefer you didn’€™t do it but you’€™ve got a kid to feed, a nice house in LA and a wife to keep in good clothes.’€ When you get used to a certain standard of living and they waft a pay cheque at you, what are you going to do? I think Jonny was like, ‘€œMate, I’€™ve got the f*cking mountain to climb here [to reach the acclaim of Sherlock], you’€™ve got nothing to fear.€ I wish him the best of luck, but I’€™m a bit cynical about why they’€™ve chosen to do it and why they cast him.

I’ve no preference. You need to be a very good mime artist for radio, to be able to avoid walking into furniture and able to learn lines for the stage, and as far as TV is concerned, just don’t look into the lens! I’m being facetious, but I could give you a half-hour lecture on each one. It’s important to remember that integrity in all is paramount. And, no matter what the medium, the challenge is thinking rather than showing and doing - that’s the best way to tackle it.

Benedict “Big Brain” Cumberbatch has figured it out for us. Bless.
“It follows the vein of classical English romances  in a way. Their feelings don’t have to be spoken. If you focus on sex with Sherlock Holmes, you have to understand that sex for him is brain work. He disdains and avoids sex in order to get what he wants, whereas Irene uses it to get what she wants - for neither of them sex is that important. It’s far more twisted.”
Quote from some Australien magazine to which I can’t find the link… damn.

Gary Oldman about the “new breed of talent”….

“There’s Gielgud, Olivier, Richard Burton and Albert Finney and all those people, and it’s a chain. You are links in a chain and now you see Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling, a new breed of talent that I think are the ‘real deal.’ You get a feeling that it’s not about celebrity or vanity. They’re real actors that are coming through.”

Wow. What an honour for the named actors.

Benedict about Sherlock II

One thing we can also expect to see this year is some more humanity from Sherlock and Cumberbatch explains that these characters have evolved; don’t worry though, there will still be “a few ‘I can’t believe he’s doing that’ moments.” Cumberbatch also reveals that the three episodes will cover different types of tales in the Holmes canon:

“The first episode is going to be about the heart, whatever that may be for Sherlock. The second episode is about horror and suspense and the third is going to be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and a thriller, so expect love, horror and thrills!”

OMG OMG OMG…. LOVE, HORROR AND THRILLS!!!!!
